Wood, Gas, and Electric Patio heaters

Patio Heaters – Outdoor Warmth And Comfort

The idea behind a patio heater is pretty obvious. There are times when we want to be outside for parties, or just to enjoy nature, but it is really cold or muggy and we quickly lose interest. A source of heat is what is needed. A person could bundle up in all sorts of cold weather jackets, pants, hats, gloves, and all that, but who wants to do that for just a quick trip to the patio? Or perhaps you’re having a party. People are going to come in their nice clothes and wearing big bulky cold weather clothing will be an eyesore or just uncomfortable. A patio heater will provide warmth to an overall area thus giving the people a warm setting without needing big bulky clothes.

Patio heaters come in all shapes, sizes, and types. There are three main types based on the fuel source: electric, gas, and fire wood. An electric heater is great in a small form for personal use or small rooms. Larger electric heaters are impractical due to the high energy costs that may be associated with frequent use. A larger electric unit would use up a lot of electricity. Gas patio heaters work great because there are different types of gas they can use. The larger heaters for big outdoor areas will probably use propane which is both cheap and safe. Just get a gas tank, load it up and turn it on. Natural gas heaters exist too. They sometimes come with the option to hook it to a main house gas line. This is a more permanent fixture and should considered when purchasing the unit. Lastly is the classic wood fire. A wood fire will be more of a pit, or large ‘table’ where a fire is built in a covered area. A circular design means people can gather all around it, and a protective grating or cover is in place to keep busy hands and flying sparks off people. A fire pit is great because its creates that old fashioned cozy comforting feeling we all get from a natural fire.

Safety and style are obvious concerns. No one wants a big ugly hunk of metal sitting on their patio, and gas heaters run a potential risk of a broken gas line. The manufacturers thought of these issues. The heaters, depending on the size and function, will be made with very clean looking polished metals. The heating mechanisms are hidden as well. Smaller units can be more easily fashioned to look like simple decorations one would normally see in a living room or on the patio. As far as safety is concerned gas heaters most always come with a shut off valve should a leak occur. If a propane unit is tipped over an automatic shut off valve turns the unit off. So the only thing you have to worry about is the fire pit, which is itself quite steady on four legs and covered with a mesh to keep things hot things in, and sensitive things out.

All in all a patio heater presents an opportunity to use your backyard deck or patio or front patio even during the more unpleasant times of the year. They afford a greater ability to expand on your party should your home not have enough room on the inside. Or maybe a party is not in the equation but the family would like to enjoy an outdoor barbecue or simply just watch the sunset. With a patio heater they can do it in comfort and style.

On a more professional note many restaurants with outdoor seating areas would most definitely benefit from patio heaters because in order to retain customers they’ll want to use those outdoor areas during all times of the year. Should a customer have to sit out there in the freezing cold they’ll most certainly not want to return. A good patio heater would make the outdoor area just as warm and inviting as the indoor dining section.
